Gage Park
Gage Park, located in central Topeka, is a great place for a family outing, reunion, walks, fishing, sporting events, quiet time, and more. The Topeka Zoo, Carousel in the Park, Train, and Reinish Rose Garden are featured attractions. This beautiful 160 acre park is also the home to Helen Hocker Theatre and countless recreational
facilities, including tennis, swimming at Blaisdell Family Aquatic Center,
volleyball, and more.
Easily
one of the most popular spots in the Midwest, the Topeka Zoo lets you come face to face with gorillas in the "Gorilla Encounter,"
wander through a Bush Camp in search of the "Lion's Pride," participate
in the hands-on Security Benefit Children's Zoo, and discover the Tropical
Rain Forest with its lush collection of vegetation and exotic animals.
Other exhibits include Black Bear Woods and Discovering Apes. Open 10 a.m.
- 5 p.m. daily, except closed on Christmas and New Year's. Admission charged.
In
addition, the Carousel in the Park will turn any visit to Gage
Park into something really special. Originally built in 1908, the carousel
is one of fewer than 200 original American carousels still in operation.
The carousel houses a 1909 Wurlitzer band organ. Admission charged.
The
Reinisch Rose Garden is one of the most attractive floral displays
in the Midwest with over 400 varieties and 6,500 bushes in a setting of
rock gardens and pools. The Logan Test Garden features possible upcoming
releases. No admission charged.
A narrow-gauge
mini-train operates daily May through Labor Day on a mile-long
scenic course through the heart of Gage Park. Admission charged.
