Kansas History Center

The Kansas State Historical Society operates this complex located on a branch of the historic Oregon Trail, consisting of the nationally recognized Kansas Museum of History, the Center for Historical Research, the Stach one-room school-house, and the Koch Industries Education Center. Kansas history is told through a variety of exhibits ranging from the Indian era to the Civil War and up to the present. The Society's research collection, housed in the new Center for Historical Research, is available to researchers.

Learn about history and natural history of northeastern Kansas on the new five mile nature trail at the Kansas History Center. Portions of the trail are ADA accessible.

The offices of the Kansas History Center are open from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Reference Library is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. (Closed Sunday-Monday.) Use of this library is free.

The Museum is open from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Sundays (closed Mondays).  Museum admission for Kansas residents is $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for senior citizens, and $3.00 for students. For out-of-state residents museum admission is $6.00 for adults, $5.00 for senior citizens, and $4.00 for students. All children under 5 are free.

The Discovery Place, a hands-on center for children, is open from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday.  The Discovery Place is open in the mornings by reservation only. No admission charge.

The Museum Store is open from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday. 

The History Nature Trail is open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. daily (sunrise to sunset).
